Bergenhus Fortress: grounds, hours and tickets 2026
Bergenhus Fortress lies about 3 minutes on foot from Bryggen. The outdoor grounds are free. Inside the fortress are two museum buildings, Haakon's Hall and Rosenkrantz Tower, and each sells its own ticket. Events and museums have separate tickets from the grounds.
The inner fortress is open from 09:00 until sunset in winter and from 08:00 to 21:00 in summer. If you plan to see the fortress together with the harbour quarter, the Bryggen and fortress walks often pass the outside of the buildings, so check whether entry is included before you book.

Rules for the grounds
The same rules apply all year on the fortress grounds.
- No grilling and no open fire.
- No drone flying on or over the area.
- Dogs must be on a leash.
- No ball games.
- No alcohol brought from outside.
Neither museum building is wheelchair accessible, so plan for the grounds only if that applies to you.

Haakon's Hall (Håkonshallen)
Haakon's Hall is a royal ceremonial building from the 13th century. Today it is both a museum and a venue for events. Adults pay NOK 120 and students NOK 60. Children aged 0 to 17 enter free, and children under 14 must come with an adult. The Bergen Card gives free entry.
The hall is open from 2 January to 20 December, 10:00 to 16:00. Because it is also an event venue, it closes on single days, among them 13 and 22 November, 7 to 13 December and 21 to 31 December. Check the current calendar before you go and do not assume the hall and the tower are open on the same day.
Rosenkrantz Tower
Rosenkrantz Tower costs NOK 170 for adults and NOK 85 for students. Children aged 0 to 17 enter free, and under 14 need an adult. The Bergen Card gives no discount here.
Opening hours change with the season:
- 2 January to 30 June: every day, 10:00 to 16:00.
- 1 July to 15 September: Monday to Friday 10:00 to 19:00, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 16:00.
- 16 September to 20 December: every day, 10:00 to 16:00.
The tower is closed on 17 May and from 21 to 31 December.
