Christmas in Bergen: gingerbread town and Christmas market
Two events shape Christmas in Bergen. Pepperkakebyen, the gingerbread town, is the gingerbread display at byROMMET, Kong Oscars gate 24 to 26. The Christmas market, in Norwegian julemarked, is held at Festplassen. They are in different places and run on different dates, so plan each one on its own.
Winter also changes the rest of your trip, with shorter opening hours and some closures between Christmas and New Year. If you want company on the old wharf, the Bryggen walking tours run in the cold months too. Dates below are for the 2026 season.

Bergen at Christmas: the two events compared
Prices in NOK, season 2026.
| Event | Dates | Where | Entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gingerbread town (Pepperkakebyen) | November 14, 2026 to January 10, 2027 | byROMMET, Kong Oscars gate 24 to 26 | NOK 199 adult, from 16 years |
| Christmas market | November 20 to December 22, 2026 | Festplassen | Free. Rides and attractions cost extra |
For most families, the gingerbread town is the one to plan around, since it has an entry fee and a queue that advance tickets do not skip. The Christmas market suits an evening stroll, and you pay only for the attractions you choose.

Bergen is wet, with a yearly normal of 2,495 mm for 1991 to 2020, so pack waterproof clothes for any month. On the Fløyen mountain, the cashmere goats go to their winter pasture on Osterøy from about November 20 and return at Easter, so you cannot count on seeing them in winter. See Fløibanen, Ulriken and Bryggens Museum for the full details.
