Bryggens Museum opening hours and tickets 2026
Bryggens Museum stands at the wharf and tells the story of medieval Bergen through what was dug out of the ground here. The main exhibition is called Under Ground (Under jorden in Norwegian) and shows archaeological finds from the medieval town. The museum grew out of the excavations that followed the great fire of 1955 and opened in 1976.
It is open every day from 12 January to 30 December, 10:00 to 17:00. It is closed on 17 May, 23 to 26 December and 31 December. Treat 1 May as a closed day as well. If you would rather have a guide, look at our Bryggen walking tours. The museum is also the starting point of the English-language walk compared below.

What the museum shows
Under Ground presents finds from the ground under and around Bryggen. The excavations after the 1955 fire uncovered the medieval town, and the exhibition shows archaeological finds and preserved building foundations from it. Runic inscriptions are part of the material from Bryggen, which makes the museum a good place to understand why the wharf matters beyond its colourful gables.
The regular ticket also covers a second exhibition, Forteljingar i tråd. You do not need a separate ticket for it. Prices are NOK 170 for adults and NOK 85 for students. Children aged 0 to 17 enter free, and children under 14 must come with an adult. The Bergen Card gives 50 percent off, and groups of 15 or more get 20 percent off.
